HI folks!

A quick note to tell you we were all refused communion in the presence of all the assembled bishops of the USA (some 300 of them!) at Solemn Mass in the National Shrine - with a formal statement read out from the pulpit before mass began.
Today we were the lead story on PAGE TWO of the Washington Post...and the National Catholic Reporter is covering our story incl. a photo.
The Rainbow Sash is on its way in the USA !!

PRESS RELEASE for NOVEMBER 13th.  Washington USA:
Press Release

For Immediate Release

On Monday, November 13, a group of gay Catholics was publicly refused Holy Communion by the assembled Catholic Bishops of the United States, during Solemn Mass at the National Shrine in Washington D.C.

The Rainbow Sash Movement attended Mass wearing the "Rainbow Sash" across our left shoulders. The Rainbow Sash symbolizes that we are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender Catholics who embrace our sexuality as a sacred gift.

We attended Mass reverently, and we appreciated the courtesy shown to us by staff at the Shrine and the welcome offered us by several priests and some members of the congregation.

However, as Mass began a formal statement was read from the pulpit, declaring that we would be refused Holy Communion. This was clearly the official response of the National Council of Catholic Bishops Conference.

We deeply regret this refusal to share the Eucharist with us. This wounds the Body of Christ and reflects the silencing and discrimination experienced by so many gay Catholics.

We call our bishops to engage in public dialogue with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Catholics throughout the United States. Our leaders must not rest content with this refusal of Communion.  We must work together in
honesty and charity for the day when all of God's people will be welcomed to Christ's table and embraced by the Church.
